Admissions Information
There are literally thousands of websites and books devoted to the college admissions process. As you go through the pages on this website, you will notice that many author and publisher names are repeated....the College Board, Princeton Review, Gen and Kelly Tanabe, Peterson's...... all have developed series of books and websites to walk you through the different pieces of the application process that you'll encounter as you apply for college. Barron's and Fiske are a couple of other names that come up frequently in relation to college admissions information.... you can find them on Amazon.com, too. Even the 'Dummies' series has gotten into the act.....they produce some surprisingly informative books on different aspects of the college admission process.
Each author or publisher takes a slightly different approach even if they are all about the same thing. You don't need to read them all to be well informed but you should read more than one. DO NOT make the mistake of thinking that you don't need to consult any of them! Even if you have a parent who is a professor or you have an older brother or sister who is in college and and is giving you all kinds of hints and advice, you still need to read, understand and own this process for yourself. It is YOUR journey, after all!! (That's a good thing!)
There are basically two parts to the college admissions process.....getting into a college and paying for it. It will and can seem stressful. But the more you understand all the pieces, the better you'll be able to manage them...and the less stressful it will be. Same for parents...with one caveat - it is your student's job to apply for college!
